Calicut: Minority Rights Watch organized a conference at Sports Council Hall at Calicut on 1 November on ‘letter hunting.’
Naeem Thottathil, regional convener of Minority Rights Watch, was on the chair. The inaugurator was Advocate Jagadish Chandra (Bangalore), a prominent human right activist. He argued that the Muslim minority is specifically targeted in Kerala to divide the people. He alleged that what was happened in Gujarat and Muzafarnagar was another dimension of the same project. The targeting of Muslims is to create chasm between various people, he said, adding that this tendency should be resisted organizing a people’s front.
The main speaker was Professor P. Koya, Thejas Managing editor. He said that the terms like democracy, freedom of expression, socialism, and secularism are now mere rhetoric to cheat the people. The ruling group has no belief in such noble concepts. The nation is becoming a police state. The Intelligence and security agencies are working against the interests of the people and human rights.
M.N. Ravunny, state general secretary of Porattom, opined that this letter hunting is a new thing. It reminds us emergency and will improve the unity of the oppressed.
T. Muhammad Velom, Kerala state president of Solidarity, that the government will be defeated in this reprehensible venture as they are doing evil. They are playing communalism, minority bashing and anti-secularism.
P. Ambika (human rights activist), Dr. K.S. Sudeep (writer and cultural activist), V. Prabhakaran(writer and dalit activist), Jasir Randathani (MSM state secretary), Adv. S. Shanavas (chairman of Minority Rights Watch, Kerala), Abdussalam Kootilangady (Kerala state secretary of Wahdate Islami Hind), Siddiq Kuttikkattor and P.K.
